Gender As A Socio Cultural Construct Of Female And Male...

â€Å"Gender is a socio-cultural construct of female and male identity that shapes how individuals live and interpret the world around them. Gender is not natural: it is learned in society through direct and indirect means† (Knapp, 1). The purpose of this paper is to provide an examination and a comparison of the gender roles and cultural differences among men and women in Mexico and China particularly in the areas of traditional customs, education, family structure/marriage and labor markets. Since societies have evolved in both countries, radical changes have been observed in gender roles from traditional practices. Although laws have been passed to create equality between women and men, there are clear differences in both cultures in terms of authority and rights - women still play a dominant role and caretakers in the family, while men symbolize the head of the family. While in both cultures, gender roles have changed dramatically, in order to get a good understanding be tween these two societies, it is essential that we examine the traditions and costumes of each country. Though in both China and Mexico, men have been considered the core of the family, there are major cultural differences that influence how men and women are perceived in society. Although women in China had been suppressed by the immobilizing foot-binding tradition for generations, the significance of family lineage remains a distinct feature in many families. â€Å"Individuals are more than temporary carriesShow MoreRelatedCultural Gender And Gender Roles1904 Words   |  8 Pages Gender is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as the state of being male or female. Serve vs Service How to Choose the Right Word

As verbs, both these words concern giving or providing, but in general practice, people are served, things are serviced. See the examples and the usage notes below. Examples of Serve vs Service The sole responsibility of White House staff is to serve the president.Three technicians serviced the presidents computer. Usage Notes Many commentators disparage the use of service in contexts where serve is also possible. They favor restricting service to those senses which are uniquely its own, especially to repair or provide maintenance for, as in service a car. . . . Nevertheless, the disapproved sense of service continues to be fairly common. (Merriam-Websters Dictionary of English Usage, 1994) [S]ervice was once only a noun, but since the late 19th century it has been used as a transitive verb as well. It may mean to provide service for , to pay interest on , or generally to perform services for. Ordinarily the verb to serve ought to be used in broad senses. Service should be used only if the writer believes that serve would not be suitable in idiom or sense, especially since service also denotes the male animals function in breeding. (Bryan A. Introduction The higher management of Creative Developer Limited is aimed at expanding their business in the near future: this report contains the details of the hardware and software solutions that have been proposed to facilitate the solution. In section 2 (task 1) of the report, the proposed solution along, with its system specifications have been provided. In section 3 (task 2), the process for testing the hardware solution has been discussed along a discussion on various Operating Systems and the software solution that has been proposed. The test plans, the user documentation, the health and security plans and the system security policies to be implemented in the organization have been provided in section 4 of the report. 2.Task 1: Background of the project a.The scenario and the systems solution The organization being considered, Creative Developer Limited or the CDL, is an established software application and web development organization. It had been operating at the Stratford region of London. A current market research undertaken by the representatives of the organization indicate that the number of customers to whom they could serve is increasing steadily (Patterson and Hennessy 2013). The higher management of the organization is thus of the opinion that improving the infrastructure of the organization would help them to optimize the processes of catering to the requirements of target customers (Siewiorek and Swarz 2014). At present, the organization employs 2 developers who design software applications, one designer for the development of graphics applications, 4 developers having expertise in web development and three other developers who are employed for performing miscellaneous development activities. In order to meet the requirements of the organization, the following solutions are being recommended to the management of Creative Developer Limited: Development of an official website or web-portal through which the target customers would be able to communicate with the representatives of the organizations (Patterson and Hennessy 2013). The utilization of cloud based platforms for facilitating the access to application suites useful for the development of software and the web based applications (Wolf 2012). The implementation of a network of the computer system that would be used for the operational activities of the organization, ore specifically for the purpose of graphics designing and development of software and web developments (Siewiorek and Swarz 2014). The website that has been recommended to be implemented in the organization would facilitate the process of branding and promoting the services that Creative Developer Limited is capable of providing to the customers (Sekanina 2012). The website would also allow the representatives of the organization to communicate with their customers, besides providing information on those application or software solutions that have been developed for their customers previously (Hoffmann, Hoffmann and Sllner 2013). On the other hand, the cloud based development platform would allow the designers to gain access to cloud based application development tools, besides facilitating the storage of the designed modules. The utilization of cloud based developmental tools would be useful in reducing a number of investments that the management would have to make for the procurement of such applications, as cloud based platforms allow the users to gain access to such resources on a shared basis and pay as per usage. The cloud based storage would also allow the employees to gain access to files from anywhere and anytime: thus escalating the development process (Wolf 2012). Last but not the least, the development of the network of hi-tech computer devices would increase the efficiency of the operational activities of the organization, along with the inter-organizational communication process. b. Systems specification of the solution being provided The following hardware and software solutions are being recommended to the higher management of Creative Developer Limited: b. i. The hardware devices We recommend the Packard Bell OneTwo M D6020uk All-in-one PC, having a sleek and sophistic design, to be installed in Creative Developer Limited. This desktop personal computer is installed with the latest Windows 7 Operating software and would be easier to install in the office cubicles as the model has been specifically designed for fitting into small desk spaces (Mller and Paul 2013). The specifications of this desktop PC have been provided in the following section: The Microprocessor Type of processor Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4300 processor Memory Clock Speed (RAM) 800MHz FSB (Computerhope.com 2016). (RAM) 800MHz FSB The Hard Drive 1 TB Hard Drive HDD rotation speed (Manna and Pnueli, 2012). 7200rpm, Type: SATA The Operating System The preloaded Genuine Windows 7 (Hatley and Pirbhai 2013). Operating System type 64-bits The Peripherals a. DVD Rewriter b. Built-in wireless (802.11b/g/n) c. Integrated Graphics d. Digital TV Tuner (Hatley and Pirbhai 2013). Card reader 5 in 1 ( supports :,SD, xD, SD HC, MS Pro,MS, MMC) Optical drive TRAY SUPER MULTI DVDRW (Siewiorek and Swarz 2014). At present, the market price of this hardware would be around 379.00 (Packard Bell 2016). This particular hardware set has been recommended as the hardware specifications of the machine indicate that the software applications required for the operational activities of the organization would be well supported. Besides this, the manufactures have incorporated enough RAM facility to run the basic web application development tools like that of Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Visio, and Dreamweaver. b. ii. The cloud based development platform Several cloud platforms are available these days which can be used solely for the purpose developing software applications (Valilai and Houshmand 2013). Utilizing such tools do not require any particular hardware specification and the costs of these services vary greatly based on the products being used and the extent of usage. b. iii. The web-portal The system specification of the website that would be designed for Creative Developer Limited has been provided in the following table: At present, developing an efficient website containing the above mentioned features would require an investment of around 35,000 approximately.b. iii. The web based communication toolIn this section of the report, the system specifications, that is, the features and utilities of the web based communication tool, have been discussed in brief. The features have been decided based on the requirements of the client and include the following: Supported by all leading Operating Systems, like that of Windows, iPhone, Android, etc. Designed for supporting instant messaging and video calling features (Biltoftà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ Jensen et al. 2014). Would support group and point to point conference calls. Designed for cumulative call transfer facilities (Dmoz.org 2016). Would provide access to all local contacts instantly and contact lists would be updated with new contacts automatically (Linsley 2014). It is expected that the development of the customized web application tool and its installation in the computing devices utilized by the employees of Creative Developer Limited would cost 10000.00 approximately.3. Task 2:a. Testing process for the hardware systemIn this section of the report, we provide the details of the testing procedures that should be utilized to estimate the efficiency of the designed system before it is commissioned. It is worth mentioning that the testing process should be conducted before finalizing the vendor and the model of the computing devices to be installed in an organization. Besides this, the availability of the specific requirements of the client helps in estimating the efficiency of any ICT system supported by the said hardware system (Maddox 2015).In general, the following testing processes are utilized for hardware testing:Physical inspection: The physical inspection of the hardware systems should include an inspection of the following features (N eumann 2011):The quality of the construction of the machines: The computing devices that are being provided to the employees of Creative Developer Limited should be of strong and solid build, such that they able to withstand the high usage to be made (Brjesson and Feldt 2012 ). Thus, the quality of the construction of the hardware products, including the placement of the various switches and ports should be checked (Polian 2014).The physical design: The design and the layout of the machines need to be through tested in order to make sure that the following systems are well designed and built:the airflow and the cooling systems (Gross, Fraser and Zeller 2012 ).The condition of the switches, pins, jacks and ports included in the hardware setup (Leigh et al. 2014).iii. The built, design and the rigidity of the cases (Kolawa et al. 2013).The fitting of the various subparts (Raman 2012).the ease with which the various parts of the machines can be replaced during the servicing process: as for example, unscrewing and re-screwing a large number of tiny bolts would essentially slow down the servicing process when a large number of machine parts need to be replaced. Thus, models having such specifications should not be considered by the IT team of Creative Developer Limited (Brjesson and Feldt 2012 ).Last but not the least the power supply components of the computer hardware need to be checked for their efficiency and quality(Spichkova, Schmidt and Peake 2014).Testing using software: Apart from the above mentioned physical testing process, invoking software base stress testing is also encouraged so as to detect the faulty hardware systems (Kuo, Chien, and Kim 2013). Several software bundles are available on the market that can be utilized for stress testing various hardware components, like that of Prime95 for stress testing CPUs, MemTest86+ for testing the RAM, FurMark for testing the GPU and so on and so forth ( Feitelson 2015).b. The software solutionIn this section of the report, we provide the details of the software solutions that are being designed for the Creative Developer Limited so as to assist them in their business expansion.i. The software system being developedIn order to assist Creative Developer Limited to expand their business and cater to the requirements of the ever increasing customer base, we have emphasized on the processes which would be utilized for communicating with the said clients (Wang and Tao 2012). Thus, it has been decided that an efficient official website of the organization would be developed, which would help the process of marketing and branding for the organization (Valacich 2012 ). Information regarding the services offered by the Creative Developer Limited and glimpses of the products that have been custom made for other clients. Customers would also be able to communicate with the representatives of the organization and those who express their interests in using the facilities, would be encouraged to creat e customer profiles by submitting their personal details on the portal (Johnson 2015 ). These customer profiles would eventually lead to the generation of unique customer ids which in turn would facilitate the process of post sales customer services.Besides this, a web based communication tool would be custom designed for Creative Developer Limited. It has already been mentioned that the customer base to which the organization could provide services to is steadily increasing and that the organization has plans for future expansions. Thus, the web based communication tool would facilitate collaborative work between teams located in separate locations (Wheeler 2013). Thus, it can be said that the proposed software system would only help the organization to cater to the needs of their newly found customers by would also help the employees through the application development processes.ii. Currently available operating systemsAt present, the following types of operating systems are readi ly available in the market.Real time operating systems: A RTOS or real time operating system that has been custom designed to support applications that generate data in real time (Lister 2013). Needles to say, these multitasking operating systems are suitable for supporting embedded systems like devices used for controlling household appliances, programmable thermostats, robots used in various industries, equipment utilized in scientific research, etc.Examples of a real time operating system are VxWorks, RTLinux, QNX,etc.Single User, Single Tasking Operating Systems: As the name suggest, such operating systems allow a single task from a single user to run at a time. The operating systems installed in the palm held devices are examples of single user single tasking OS ( Tsichritzis and Bernstein 2014).Single User, Multi Tasking Operating Systems:As suggested by the description of the OS, such operating systems allow several applications from a single user to run simultaneously. Most of the computing devices and the laptops that awe use today run on such Operating Systems (Stallings 2013).The Microsoft built Windows OS; Mac built OS X, and Linux are some of the most commonly used Single User Multi Tasking Operating Systems ( Tsichritzis and Bernstein 2014).Multi user operating system:A multi user OS allows various applications from numerous users to operate simultaneously. The OS itself makes sure that resources demanded by these applications are available and schedules them accordingly (Hansen 2013).Unix servers are the most commonly utilized Multi user operating systems. As mentioned in Task 1, the application utilized by the employees of Creative Developer Limited would be well supported by Windows 7: thus, this particular OS would be utilized. However, it is worth mentioning that most of the single multi tasking operating system allow the users to perform a wide range of customization and personalization: a facility that is not available with the other types of OSs (Lister 2013).4. Task 3:a. The test plans document In this section of the report, we provide a brief description of the various tests that have to be performed before the hardware and software systems are incorporated into the operational activities of Creative Developer Limited.Testing the hardware:Tests should be conducted so as to make sure that the operating system boots properly and that the OS provides a smooth run (Chupilko 2012).The applications like Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver are considered to be RAM hungry applications: thus simultaneous utilization of these applications would be useful in assessing the quality of the RAM (Ece.uprm.edu 2016).Writing and compiling codes in the above mentioned applications, besides making attempts to upload or down load information from the internet and utilizing the FTP services, would be helpful in testing the efficiency of the processor (Hardware Software Co-Design for JPEG Encoder Test Bench 2012). The computer hardware being tested could be considered to be highly efficient if no lagging or crashing of the system is reported during the above mentioned test procedures (Martin 2011).Testing the software: The following components of the proposed software solution need to be tested before installation:UI testing: The user interfaces of the website and the communication tool (Denton, Moody and Bennett 2016).Data base integrity testing: The database systems running at the back end of the website (Mahmud, Cypher, Haber and Lau 2012)Performance testing:The links that the help the users to move from one part of the website to the other. The response time of the said applications.Load Testing: Testing the efficiency and the performance of the website and the web based communication tool when a large number of users are logged in to the systems (Goebel 2016).Security Testing: Verifying the mechanisms that that user would utilize for logging in to the system or accessing the data stored in the enterprise databases (Sce.uhcl.edu 2016).b. Security policy In this section of the report, we provide a brief description of the security policies that need to be implemented by the higher management of Creative Developer Limited. Password policy: All system level passwords are to be managed by the IT administrator. The employees would not be allowed to create passwords of their own (Ifinedo 2012). All the passwords being used for increasing the level of security of the said computer system should be maintained in the global password database of the organization. All user level passwords including those utilized to access emails and data base information must be changed periodically. Information security policy: The system should reduce the storage of sensitive client information to the minimum levels. The access to such sensitive information must be controlled by the IT administrator (Safa, Von Solms and Furnell 2016). The employees of the organization would not be allowed to make copies of the enterprise information in their personal detachable devices, nor would they be able to send any attachments through emails, while using the network provided by the organization. Antivirus policy: Corporate standard anti-virus programs should be used for ensuring the security of the hardware components of the computing devices and that of the enterprise information stored in these machines (Vance and Siponen 2012). The anti-virus programs should be downloaded from the official sites and be updated on a regular basis. The employees of the organization should be repeatedly made aware of the fact that an email sent from an unknown source might actually be sent with malicious intents: thus, they should not download or open any attachment sent by unknown ids (Safa, Von Solms and Furnell 2016). Policies For Acceptable Usage: It is expected that the management of Creative Developer Limited would provide up to a certain level of privacy to the employees of the organization in terms of information generation and usage: however, it must be made clear to the employees that the data or the information that are generated using the corporate computer network provided by the organization are to be considered as the intellectual properties of the organization itself (Siponen and Vance 2014). The higher management of the organization would have the right to conduct audits of the computer systems and networks used by employees so as to ensure that the above mentioned policies are being abided by (Ifinedo 2012). d. A Health and Safety document In this section of the report, we provide a brief detail of the Health and Safety policies that must be implemented by the higher management of Creative Developer Limited. The employees of the organization must be made aware of the fact that they should not bring in any edible material, like foods or drinks, in the work stations. This particular policy would be useful in avoiding spilling of food material on the computer devices which might even lead to short circuits (Lundgren and McMakin 2013). All the live or open wires within the work floor areas must be concealed within insulator material, and the employees should immediately inform the concerned authorities in case live and/ or open wires are noticed (ONeill et al. 2013). The computer devices being used by the employees should not be subjected to direct heat, smoke or moisture (Ab.ust.hk 2016). In case of any servicing work, the following rules are to be followed: Before servicing any machine, all the wires or connectors supplying power to the system must be unplugged (Sitesafe.org.nz 2016). Additional care must be taken when the employees attempt to work with electric switches. All cables should be unplugged if the employees need the access in to the CPU cabinet (Safeworkaustralia.gov.au 2016). 5. Recommendations In the light of the discussion made in the report, the following recommendations are being provided to the higher management of the Creative Developer Limited: In spite of the fact that the development and the implementation of the proposed solutions would require the management to invest a hefty amount, yet the management should opt for the installation as the proposed systems would increase the efficiency of the operational activities of the organization. The higher management of the organization should implement a detailed security policy in the organization in order to secure the enterprise data. Strict health and safety policies must also be implemented so as to avoid fatal mishaps or accidents. The testing plans provided in the report should be followed before the incorporation of the proposed solutions within the operational activities of the organization. References Ab.ust.hk,. 2016. Romulus Was Ounder And First King Of Rome. He And His Twin Brother, Re

Romulus was ounder and first king of Rome. He and his twin brother, Remus, were the sons of Mars, god of war, and of Rhea Silvia, also called Ilia, one of the vestal virgins. Rhea Silvia was the daughter of Numitor, king of Alba Longa, who had been deposed by his younger brother Amulius. Amulius had made Rhea Silvia a priestess so that she would have no children to make claims against his throne. After the birth of her two boys, to remove any threat against himself, he had them thrown in a basket into the Tiber River. The twins were not drowned, however. They were rescued and nursed by a she-wolf on the slope of the Palatine Hill and were later discovered by the shepherd Faustulus and reared by his wife, Acca Larentia. When they grew to manhood, the brothers deposed Amulius and placed their grandfather Numitor on the throne. The brothers then decided to build a city. After quarreling over the spot, they finally chose the Palatine Hill. Romulus built a wall, over which Remus, to show its inadequacy, scornfully leaped; Remus was thereupon killed by Romulus or one of his companions, and Romulus became sole ruler of the city. He provided an asylum on the Capitoline Hill for runaway slaves and homicides and procured wives for them by seizing the Sabine women at a festival to which he had invited the Sabines. After a series of wars between Romulus and the Sabines, they were finally reconciled, with Romulus as king. According to legend, Romulus was carried up to the heavens by his father, and was later worshiped as the god Quirinus.

Marketing Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Marketing - Research Paper Example This shall be at the core of the analysis below. The companies’ approaches shall be evaluated on the basis of the four P’s of marketing (price, product, place and promotion). In addition to that, any differences in their domestic and international operations shall be under study. Domestically Internationally Practice/Example Rationale Practice/Example Rationale PRODUCT McDonald’s A wide array of fast foods and beverages. A one stop shop for all food and beverage needs. Sale of fast foods such as hamburger and pizza. Attract working class to the fast food industry. Starbucks Coffee and accompaniments only. New products, packaging i.e Blonde Roast Creating a niche market and specializing in a single product. Great service, top quality coffee, stylish packaging that lives up to the brands reputation. Developing brand association among consumers and nurturing habits. PLACE McDonald’s In all big cities via franchising. Targeting workers during or after work Big towns in developing countries. Targeting emerging classes in towns Starbucks Big cities, small towns through clustered outlets. Being the â€Å"third place† after home and work. Only in large towns in emerging markets Proximity to core consumers, the middle class PRICE McDonald’s Affordable rates. Attracting price sensitive buyers. Low cost coffee and pastries. Luring low and high end buyers. Starbucks Premium rates. Quality has no price. Relatively high prices. Attracting high end consumers. PROMOTION McDonald’s Advertising using mass media, billboards e.g. ‘I’m Lovin It’ ads Establishing a constant presence with loyal and budding customers Advertisements in mass media, billboards etc Creating brand awareness among new customers Starbucks Word of mouth and personalized service Quality self promotes. Unique customer Advertisements in mass media Introducing customers to a novel product. Since the start of the economic crisis, Starbucks has cl osed several stores at home (Gummesson, 2002). This needs to inform its operations abroad. Lowering prices is the best way to attract international consumers since they are using the product for the first time, and they are not ready to pay dearly for an experience they are unaware of. As regards promotion, both word of mouth promotion and mass media marketing have served Starbucks and Mc Donald’s well at home. However, the international market is totally different (Gummesson, 2002). They can not rely on the customers to spread the word on a product they do not know. Therefore, mass media market should be the first resort. Location or place has been a major determining factor of both companies success. At home, Mc Donald’s and Starbucks have used franchising and clustering to spread their branch footprint respectively. However, abroad franchising is the tried and proven alternative. Franchising allows for local entrepreneurs who know the market well to attend to the un ique needs of these consumers. Product is the reason the business exists in the first place. At home, both companies are best known for their coffee and related products. The operations in international markets, however, need to follow a different path (Gummesson, 2002). Several products should be launched at a go. This way, even customers who do not have a coffee drinking culture shall be welcome to the establishments. After all, the prime objective is to build a large customer base. After that has been achieved, maybe the companies can concentrate on their core

FOUNDATIONS FOR RESEARCH 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words

FOUNDATIONS FOR RESEARCH 2 - Essay Example (2009), reducing anxiety in adults though the relaxation-breathing techniques has been used severally and proved through clinical trials as being effective in the production of good asthma outcomes. It is true that all research works aims at bridging a certain gap in information in less researched areas. In this case, more evidence will prove the importance of using such interventions in asthmatic children. The article was properly titled while the contents are in line with the title. This is proved by performing a search on the article using the key words like relaxation, breathing, asthma, trial, controlled etc. The research report abstract has enough information and readers can determine if the research has enough evidence to qualify it as being relevant. It is an overview which is visible since it is concise and brief and has all key findings articulated by the researcher. The abstract captures all key elements of the research work. In brief, the research abstract gives the resea rchers objectives which include evaluation of the effectiveness of combined self-management and relaxation breathing training for children with moderate-to-severe asthma compared to self-management-only training (Li-Chi Chiang et al. 2009), the research background, the methodology, the design, the sample and the results. A good abstract has to contain all the above as it summarizes the researchers assertions in a nutshell and makes it easier for many to understand the research work without flipping each page as Alasuutari, P. et al. (2008) puts it. An important part included here is the background part. This is key in any research work as it gives the information gap which forms a justification for the research. The authors start by first explaining Self-management programs, there use, when they have been used and their successes. Further, it gives perceptions towards their use and gives an indication that if used on children, then successes can be realized. At the end of the abstra ct, the researchers gives a summary of the findings from the analyzed data concluding that a combination of self-management and relaxation-breathing training can reduce anxiety, thus improving asthmatic children’s health. These results can serve as an evidence base for psychological nursing practice with asthmatic children (Li-Chi Chiang et al. 2009). In addition, the authors further gives the addition knowledge contributed to by the paper and the gap it attempts to fill, its relevance and its application and integration into the existing knowledge base. In the research study report, the independent variable were combined self-management and relaxation-breathing training for children and self-management-only training while the dependent variable was severity of asthma and are specified in the report abstract. In the study report, the researchers report that data on anxiety levels, self-perceived health status, asthma signs/symptoms, peak expiratory flow rate, and medication u se was collected. Here the independent variables are anxiety levels, self-perceived health status, peak expiratory flow rate, and medication use while the dependent variable is asthma signs/symptoms. Other important considerations made on the data included interaction effects among the two groups and research timelines. The impact of interactions at times is enormous such that its omission leads to un-biased results. It is always important to tell in

Training in Diversity Essay Example for Free

Training in Diversity Essay Skills and expertise in a specific type of job is necessary in order for a person to be selected in positions in certain companies. Nowadays, having the financial and economic crisis, companies tend to choose personnel with the highest or best expertise from the pool of apprentices in the desired field of work. It will be a waste of time and money if the companies will no t be able to get a quality and efficient personnel. In observing the business world, the recession has not greatly affected the food industries except for the breakout of melamine and Salmonella for some cases, and I can say telecommunication services still have its place unmoved. I observed that companies with the aim of hiring and getting professionals in the job or places of the representatives are conducting trainings that might bring out their potentials offer degrees, say a 6 month review and hands on training with the supervisors and other professionals. Since the job needs skilled people, the requirement to become a certified customer care representative is at least a Bachelors Degree and a proficiency in English. Bishop and Company in Waipahu Hawaii, for instance opens a number of position for customer care representatives but provides a temporary contract with the workers, thus only have 8 hours work at day time. On the other hand, in the Philippines, particularly BPO Training Academy caters a number of trainings that will aid the call center agents or representatives to deal with the problems and the sole nature of the work. The company provides an outlook of a job thus giving its student quality education that in turn is a tool in overcoming the struts and frustrations of a call center agent. Moreover, even if the company requires fees for the training, the students have assurance for employment for the company has a number of partners that are in line with providing best service and assistance on line. jacksonian :: essays papers

jacksonian Although the flood waters of poverty, unemployment, and famine known as the Great Depression began to recede under Hoover’s administration, it was Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his administration who saw to the retreat of the destitute ways of life that had enveloped the nation. When FDR took office, he intended to change the government in order to include help for the plight of the â€Å"forgotten man†. He had a plan for the change known as the â€Å"New Deal†. Roosevelt’s New Deal programs aimed at three R’s - relief, recovery, and reform. Also, through his New Deal programs, one can see all he did during the Depression to relieve suffering and jump start the economy. In the New Deal program, Roosevelt had short and long - range goals. One of his first short-range goals was relief - especially in the first 100 days. At the time of Roosevelt’s inauguration, one out of every four people was unemployed. Since FDR was intent upon ending human suffering first and foremost, he decided to be open about using federal money to aid the unemployed. With the okay from FDR, the Hundred Days Congress passed much legislation in order to help in the first short range goal - to give immediate relief. In 1933, Congress created the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which provided employment in fresh - air government camps for about 3 million uniformed young men. Their work included reforestation, fire fighting, flood control, and swamp drainage. Also new in 1933 was the Federal Emergency Relief Act (FERA). It was the first major effort of Congress to deal with the unemployed adults, and its chief purpose was immediate relief rather than long-range re covery. Other legislation passed by Congress included the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA), the Home Owners’ Loan Corporation (HOLC), and Civil Works Administration (CWA). Roosevelt’s other short - term goal, recovery, was also off to a good start in the first 100 days of FDR’s administration. There were many legislative acts passed by Congress in order to allow for a quick recovery for the nation. The two best examples of recovery in the first 100 days would be the Emergency Banking Relief Act, which allowed the president to regulate banking transactions and foreign exchange and to reopen solvent banks, and the National Industrial Recovery Act. The National Industrial Recovery Act, which created the National Recovery Administration (NRA), designed to assist industry, labor, and the unemployed, and the Public Works Administration (PWA), intended for industrial recovery, as well as unemployment relief.

Description of personal warm-up Essay

Before training or playing a match in my sport I will always follow a warm-up program. This warm-up will help prevent injury such as muscle pulls and tears. As well as being physically prepared it will also help me be mentally prepared which is especially important in a match situation. My warm-up consists of a few running drills and then into a set of stretches followed by some skilled drills. It is very important to do some running drills before stretching as muscles need to be stretched when warm to prevent injury. A simple 3 minute jog would warm the muscles enough for stretching. Stretches These are the stretches that I would go through. Each stretch has a diagram, to demonstrate how the stretch is done, and the names of the muscles being stretched. Neck muscles (Sternocleidomastoid and scalenes) Shoulder muscle (Deltoids, Trapezius and Triceps) Spine Quadriceps (Rectus temoris and Sartoius) Hamstrings Gluteus Maximas (Gluteuls) Groin (Pectinus, Odducta longas and Odducta magnus) Skilled drills The final part of my warm up consists of practicing skills with my teammates. There are many forms that we can practice skills with. Grid work Grid work will be set out with players on four corners facing each other as shown in the diagram. = players = running path The players will run to the opposite corner of the grid with a rugby ball and pass it on the player facing them. They can pass it on in number of ways; * A simple pass * A pop pass for the player to run onto * A high pass for the player to jump for * A gut pass Lateral passing Another drill that can be used is the lateral passing drill. Rather than passing forward in grid work, lateral passing consists of passing backwards down a line like a match situation. Players should be in several groups of about 3 to 6 and they should line up at two opposite ends as shown in the diagram. = players = running path = ball path Each group should run to the other end while passing the ball along the line. The distance should be enough for the ball to go down the line 3 times. Benefits of a warm up If a warm up is carried out in the right way it can give many benefits: * Loss of muscle stiffness * As haemoglobin releases oxygen easier at higher muscle temperatures there is facilitated oxygen utilization by the muscles * Speed and force of contraction is increased as the higher temperature of the muscle gives it more energy * Vascular beds dilate in the active tissues increasing blood flow * As muscles are warmed there is reduced resistance which allows a greater economy of movement * Reduces chance of injuries such as tears, pulls etc. Cool down A cool down is just important as the warm up and should always be done after training or a match. I will always cool down after a match or training with my team by simply jogging for 5-10 minutes. This will gently decrease my body temperature. I will also do a series of stretches for 5-10 minutes. Benefits of a cool down A cool down will give a number of benefits: * Reduce the chances of DOMS (Delayed-onset muscle soreness) * Decrease the level of adrenaline in the blood * Helps in the release of lactic acid in the muscles

A Brief Note On Silent Suffering And The Young Lady

I’ll be honest, I didn’t fully comprehend the quote you read today in class, however, the message you discussed was deep and I absolutely loved it. Silent suffering is happening all around us. I’ve seen this reoccurring quote on social media that always says something like â€Å"be nice to everyone because you never know they battles they may be fighting†. I really think that relates to what you talked about in class today. Everybody you see is feeling pain or fighting a battle you have no idea about. The same thing goes for you as well, everyone you see doesn’t know your pain or the battles you are currently fighting. Just the phrase â€Å"silent suffering† gives me a deep and sorrowful feeling. I think the concept of self-advocacy is very powerful. If and when a child with learning disabilities is able to grasp it, they will be able to turn their entire situation around. In the video, the young lady says that you should not use your learning disability as a crutch, which is so incredibly true. However, there are kids everywhere that do. I believe that it is the teachers job to show the child how to self-advocate. As teachers, we are their role models. We need to show them what self-awareness and self-advocacy look like. I think it is part of our duties to help them learn about themselves, how their disability affects them, techniques to manage these disabilities, and how to speak up about what they feel others need to be aware of. Once a student is able to do this, I think thereShow MoreRelatedWilliam Shakespeare s Life And Life3795 Words   |  16 Pagesentitled Shakespeare?s Life, found on Foldger Shakespeare Library, it suggests, ?that this separation, and the couple s relatively few children, were signs of a strained marriage, but we do not know that, either.?
